I met my neighbors, Bobbie and Jack, by the pool in the summer of 2022. They are now two of my favorite people (and two of my biggest fans).
This afternoon I brought them a bag of pita chips and some spinach & artichoke dip. Bobbie made coffee. We chatted about Kings of Tupelo, and then Bobbie brought up my latest substack post.
“You know us,” said Bobbie. “We think everything you write is perfect. But we think you were a little hard on yourself in your last post.”
“Like how?” I asked.
“Like how you’ll write that you got stood up or didn’t get a job but you won’t write about positive stuff.”
“I thought I struck a good balance. I wanted to tell the truth.”
“Well, we think you should include an amendment.”
“Oh kay…”
“Or I’ll include an amendment.”
“Can I film it?”
“Sure.”
“You want me to film it and send it out on my site?”
“Sure.”
“Aright. I’ll get my phone.”
“And if anyone writes back and says ‘fuck these ladies,’ we don’t care.”
No idea why anyone would write back and say that, but, hey if they do…no one cares.
Amen.
